What is CrossFit?

CrossFit summed up is "Constantly varied functional movement at high intensity".

It is a combination of strength training, Olympic lifting and conditioning suitable for all fitness levels.

What does that mean?

  • Constantly varied

While CrossFit does come with some 'benchmark workouts', in your normal day to day training, you'll rarely see the same thing. There are constantly varied movements, rep ranges, and times you will be working for. While classes are constantly varied, the program is meticulously designed with the aim of constant progression for all of our participants.

  • Functional Movement

Function movements are the movements we do constantly in our everyday lives. Sitting and standing, picking something up off the floor, putting something on a high shelf translate into squatting, deadlifting and overhead press. These movement are all essential parts of our lives. The more we train them, the easier they become!

  • High Intensity

If you are wanting to look good, feel fitter, or get stronger, the most effective way to achieve this is with intensity. CrossFit, particularly here at Red Box Gym Murwillumbah, is about learning to move well, consistently. Once you achieve that, we start increasing the intensity - which by the way is all relative to individuals.

A bit about what our culture is like at Red Box Gym

All of our highly qualified coaches here have a mindset of growth and are all big believes of adaptation. It doesn't matter if you've been training for years, are a newbie or if you're returning from an injury. Our coaches will make sure there is something for you to do in every class to be able to move to the best of your ability.

Aside from our amazing coaches, our Murwillumbah CrossFit community have some of the best people you’ve ever met! We find our CrossFitters are here as much for each other as they are for themselves. With CrossFit, you meet a group of people that you immediately have something in common with. Everyone may show up to a workout with a different goal in mind, but you all still share a common goal - to work hard.

What if I have never done CrossFit before?

No Problem! We ask that everyone who has not done any previous CrossFit before complete our Intro class. This is just to make sure you feel comfortable around the weights and movements and will prepare you for your first class. In this session, we will go through the fundamental movements and make any corrections necessary to current movement patterns. We will explain a bit about what we do here and how what we do may differ from what you have done elsewhere, along with the reasons why.
